2001 Season review by John Knock The club's junior XI completed their season with an exciting 30 over match against Cowdrey CC on Sun 12 August, won by Cowdrey off the last ball of the 28th over with 9 wickets down, chasing Leigh's 135-5 which included a half century stand between Jamie Kelman (39) and Matt Glenny (21). The season's record shows 12 games played, six won, with one cancelled through rain. The U14's retained the David Stevens Memorial Shield with a win over Bidborough which included a first wicket stand of 122 between Warren Evans (51) and Matt Glenny (50). However the U15s were unable to win their all-day test match against Penshurst, losing by an innings. During the seaosn, Robert Cormack, Adam Reeves and Frankie Baker all shared in half century partnerships and Robert, Matt, Warren and Jamie Kelman all scored 50's. Warren Evans scored most runs, 134, followed by Rob Cormack with 126 and Jamie Kelman with 122. Adam Reeves led the bowling with 8 wickets. Rob led the U15s with enthusiasm as did Matt Glenny and Frankie Baker with the U14's. In all 26 boys and 1 girl played. Vic Clark again provided dedicated coaching, he and Brian Ball umpired and John Knock acted as fixtures secretary, scorer and selector. Next season, six of the older lads will no longer be eligible for junior cricket but several have already started to make their mark in the senior Saturday 2nd and Sunday XIs and their progress is being encouraged.
