Leigh Cricket Club near Tonbridge in Kent has a long and illustrious history. Founded sometime around 1700, it is one of the world's oldest clubs and originates from an area which formed the birthplace of cricket. The club is fortunate to have retained its place at the heart of village life, enjoying a traditional village green setting amongst oak and horse-chestnut trees and attractive cottages.
We field three sides most weekends: two Saturday and one Sunday. The Saturday sides play in the Kent County Village League whilst the Sunday side plays friendlies. In 2001, the first team finished 3rd in the League (our highest ever position) whilst in 2000 we reached the semi-finals of the Kent Area section of the Village KO, our best performance since reaching the national quarter finals stage in 1984. A team enters the Greensand midweek evening tournament.
We believe strongly in developing our juniors and as well as a full junior side, there is regular practice on Sunday mornings for the juniors as well as Kwik Cricket for the younger children - boys and girls all welcome.
Although our pitch is in the centre of the public village green, we have a first rate square, lovingly tended for the last few years by our groundsman, Ray has, over the years, developed what is now an excellent batting surface. In fact, he's almost completely got rid of the old ridge, much to the disappointment of our bowlers.
